It is now official. Putting an end to all speculation about Ajith Kumar’s next film, Thala himself has confirmed that Billa 2 will be his next film offering after Mankatha.
Billa, earlier made in Tamil with Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead, was the remake of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer, Don. The film was remade in Tamil again in 2007, with Ajith in Rajinikanth’s shoes. The remake was directed by stylish filmmaker Vishnuvardhan. However, unlike the Hindi remake with Shah Rukh Khan, where the ending of the film was changed to keep the lead protagonist alive, Billa retained the same story as the original film. Billa 2 will therefore not be a sequel but is being designed as a prequel to Billa, which will focus on David’s journey and his transformation into Billa, reveals Vishnu, who reportedly is to direct the prequel as well.
“Billa 2 is my next film and we start filming in early April 2011. A prequel to Billa is an exciting premise and I’m delighted to be working with close friends like Suresh Balaje (who was the original producer of Tamil Billa) and Vishnu. I am glad that we have a strong company like the Mumbai- based Hindujas backing this project,” said Ajith. The movie has Nirav Shah behind the camera and Yuvan Shankar Raja composing the music.
