A New Ajith in Mankatha - TOI

Actor Ajith was shooting in north Madras yesterday for his 50th film Mankatha with Venkat Prabhu. The unit will move to Mumbai next week to can a few important sequence. Venkat Prabhu is confident that the audience will see a new Ajith in the film. “This is Thala’s 50th film and I have a huge responsibility towards his fans. In this film, he dances to a kuthu number like he has never done before. He will also be at his romantic best and woo his girl even better than in Vaali. He’s also some got amazing comedy scenes,” he says. And what about punch dialogues? “There are none in this. Ellarum kettavanga, aana, ivan romba kettavan is the oneliner that I told Ajith before he signed up for the film. There are no prominent punch lines in this,” he clarifies.

Billa 2 - Official Press Release (28/02/2011)

Ajith's Punch Dialogues Out

Looks like it is the season for dubbed Tamil biggies making their way into Tollywood. After Vijay and Vishal, Thala Ajith’s film Kireedom, which marked the debut of director Vijay, will soon be dubbed as Poorna Market and released in Andhra. In the film, Trisha had received critical acclaim for her role of Ajith’s love interest. The film is also considered to be an important milestone in Ajith Kumar’s career as he shed his ‘mass hero’ image and opted for a new look. Since the film was shot in Rajamundry, Vizag and surrounding areas, the producer is confident it will suit the Telugu audience and their sensibilities.
Meanwhile, one of Ajith’s punch dialogues from his much-anticipated forthcoming film, Mankatha, has been scrapped. Though director Venkat Prabhu is noncommittal, our sources reveal that the dialogue went something like this: Ellarum kettavan-na ivan romba kettavan.
Insiders reveal that the movie’s next schedule starts in north Chennai where a huge set resembling Dharavi is being erected.

Kainaat Arora - Latest Addition to Mankatha

Remember the gorgeous girl who wooed and wowed with Akshay Kumar in the song 'Aila Re Aila' from Khatta Meetha?

She donned Dimple Kapadia's look from 'Main Maike Chali Jaaongi' and caught everybody's attention and fantasy. That was Kainaat Arora for you. Though the actress debuted in Bollywood with just an item number, there has been no looking back for her with some of the best offers coming her way. The young lass just finished shooting a song with South superstar Ajith Kumar for his 50 th film Mankatha.

Talking about the song Kainaat reveals, "The film is very special for Ajith as it's his 50 th film and I couldn't have asked for more than an exclusive dance number with the Tamil superstar."

Kainaat is highly excited about the song and is sure it will be a huge hit. She says, "The song is very much like my Hindi song Aila Re Aila and Munni Badnaam Hui. It has a bar setting set in old Mumbai and is very edgy. We shot it in Chennai and it was great fun working with Ajith and the entire Mankatha team."

Confident about impressing the Tamil audience with her latkas-jhatkas, Kainaat says, "Akshay Kumar has been lucky for me and now I did this song with Ajith Kumar. I guess 'Kumar' is my lucky charm. So I am sure this song too will get me recognition from the Tamil audience and film fraternity."

Interestingly, its not just item numbers that Kainaat can boast about. The actress is in final talks with a few big banners where she will exhibit more than just her dancing skills. "I feel fortunate that after working with Akshay in Khatta Meetha, people have noticed me and approached me with some irresistible offers. I can't divulge much right now but the projects offered are really big with A-league directors and actors and I shall spill the beans soon," says Kainaat with dreams in her eyes and 'light a zillion lamps' smile on her face.

Ajith Gets New Script, Director For Billa 2

It seems Ajith is in no mood to let go of his ambitious project Billa 2.
The actor, who was earlier slated to team up with Billa director Vishnuvardhan for the sequel, has apparently fallen out with the director. But Ajith can't let his project suffer due to the strained relationships.
It was earlier reported that the film was put on backburner as Vishnu started shooting Sarvam with Arya. Ajith too went ahead with Venkat Prabhu's Mankatha. Buzz was that the two will unite once their ongoing projects are complete. But the blow was when even after completing Sarvam, Vishnuvardhan failed to shift focus to Billa 2 and started another project in Telugu with Pawan Kalyan.
An industry source tells us, "Ajith is well aware of Vishnu's lack of interest in making the sequel to the film that's been a great hit in Ajith's career. Therefore it comes as no surprise that Thala has decided to team up with another director."
Ajith has joined hands with the director of Unnai Pol Oruvan, Chakri Toleti for Billa 2. The actor and director are penning a new script and have decided to take the project on floors in April or May this year.
We wonder what Vishnuvardhan will have to say about the development.

Mankatha's Full Of Grey Shades

Here’s a Kollywood film that’s based on cricket betting. Thala Ajith’s golden jubilee film Mankatha, which directed by Venkat Prabhu, has Trisha playing the daughter of an underworld don from Mumbai’s Dharavi slums, and Ajith’s love interest.
According to sources, the movie is about cricket betting during an IPL season. The interesting part is that all the actors, including Ajith and Action King Arjun, portray roles with negative shades.
Venkat Prabhu says, “Mankatha is about different people trying to make something happen and how everything changes when one particular factor comes into play. So there will be a lot of unexpected twists and turns. This is not a gangster flick. Though it’s a high-voltage action movie with darker shades, there is no violence involved.”
The director continues, “It does have a mature, lively romance, but there are no clichéd dream song sequences.”
He predicts that Trisha will be the surprise package. The movie’s ensemble cast includes Ajith, Trisha, Arjun, Lakshmi Rai, Vedhika, Vaibhav, Anjali, Premgi Amaran, Mahat, Ganesh Venkatram.
Producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri is confident that he can wrap up the film by mid-March and release it on May 1, which happens to be Ajith’s birthday.

Vishnuvardhan walks out of ‘Billa 2’

Here comes a surprise development. Vishnuvardhan is no more the director of ‘Billa 2’, the 51st film of Ajith. Instead, Chakri Toleti of ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ fame will wield the megaphone for this mega budget film.
Vishnu walked out of the project in an amicable way as he found it hard to do two films at a time- ‘Billa 2’ with Ajith and ‘The Shadow’, a Telugu film with Pawan Kalyan. Following this, the producers found Chakri to replace Vishnu.
A source close to Vishnuvardhan tells us: “Vishnu very much wanted to do both the films. But he couldn’t as dates clashed. So he took a hard decision to opt out of ‘Billa 2’ with a firm belief that his good friend (Ajith) would understand his desire to direct a Telugu film.”
Buzz is that ‘Billa-2’ would go on floors by the last week of April and would hit the screens by this year end. “Chakri Toleti, who studied filmmaking in the US, is excited about working with Ajith,” sources add.

Vishnuvardhan Cancels Billa Date - Times of India

Director Vishnuvardhan and the producers of Billa 2 have agreed to part amicably. Vishnu will no longer be directing Ajith's highly-anticipated Billa 2, a prequel to his Billa (2007).

TOI understands that the producers, Suresh Balaji, George Pious and Sunir Khetrapal, have roped in Chakri Toleti of Unnaipol Oruvan fame as the director.

Vishnuvardhan was forced to opt out of Billa 2 as the shoot was clashing with his Pawan Kalyan Telugu film The Shadow. The director, we learn, had the scripts of both the Telugu and Tamil films ready for the last 18 months, and was waiting for the dates of the stars. But now, it will not be possible for him to direct both the ventures simultaneously as The Shadow is starting in March and Billa 2 in the end of April. The only way forward for Vishnu was to drop one of the projects and he took the hard decision to opt out of Billa 2.

Speaking exclusively to CT, Mumbai-based Sunir Khetrapal, the presenter of the film, said, "After talking with Vishnu, we have decided to amicably sort out the issue. He will now do his Telugu film with Pawan Kalyan. We will definitely do another Tamil film with him at a later date. As of now, Billa 2 will be directed by Chakri Toleti, who was signed some time ago to do a film with us." Touted to be made on a budget of ` 30 crore, it'll perhaps be the most expensive Ajith film made till date.

Khetrapal also made it clear that the Ajith-starrer will start rolling in the end of April as soon as the star completes his Venkat Prabhu-directed Mankatha. Sunir explains, "The story and screenplay of Billa 2 is being developed in-house by our team of writers, along with Chakri. It will be a prequel and will be about how David Billa became a dreaded international don. Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring the music for the film. The other technical details are being worked out currently. We should have the list of the complete star cast by March 15. We are also on the lookout for a girl to be paired as Billa's first love."

Chakri Toleti started his career as a child artist in south Indian movies before moving to the US where he got a degree in filmmaking and VFX. Recognising his potential, Kamal gave him the big break as director and also the role of a scientist in Dasavatharam.

Billa 2: Vishnuvardhan looking for a heroine?

Director Vishnuvardhan is all set to begin the prequel of his 2007 super hit film Billa with Ajith in April. Meanwhile, the director is currently in Mumbai looking for a suitable heroine. "For my Billa 2, I need a glamorous-looking heroine to play the mobster's first love. It looks like it will be a heroine from Mumbai, though nothing has been firmed up yet," the director was quoted as saying.
The prequel, titled Billa 2, is produced under the banner of Wide Angle Creations (led by George Pius and Suresh Balaje, son of producer-actor K. Balaje, who produced the original Billa with Rajinikanth in 1980) and presented by Mumbai based Sunir Kheterpal, CEO of IN Entertainment (India) Limited, part of the Hinduja Group.
According to Suresh Balaje, Billa 2 will have the entire team which was behind Billa (2007): director Vishnuvardhan, cinematographer Nirav Shah, editor Sreekar Prasad and music director Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film is expected to grace theatres in early 2012.

Exclusive : Vishnuvardhan Out Of Billa-2

Prequel of Billa is making news right from Diwali 2010 is a known fact. Here we have more news, though it’s on the wrong front. The latest buzz in the Kollywood circle is Vishnu has been removed from the new Billa venture from the producers side due to the commitments he has with the Telugu project.
Vishnu planned for simultaneously shooting Telugu movie with Pawan and Billa in Tamil with Thala. This didn’t go well with the producers as they felt it’s not easy to make two movies in parallel which may also affect the quality of the output. Also, it’s learnt that the final draft of the movie is not ready yet. Though there were continuous interviews to media by Vishnu, given a chance to postpone the project he wasn’t ready to push it.
Although Thala was ready to wait for sometime, there was no action from Vishnu side, which resulted in he being chucked from the project by the producers. Also, from close sources its evident that Vishnu’s focus is no longer on Billa-2 even though it was the first project he committed too, which is evident through Yuvan's tweets. It’s a very costly miss by Vishnu by committing a telugu movie at the same time of Billa-2.
Insiders source says that , Chakri Toleti, Director of Kamal's Unnai Pol Oruvan is to be roped in to direct the mega project film. To add to the surprise quotient, we have news that a completely new fresh team might be formed for this big budget extravaganza “Billa-2” and it’s no lesser than the current team.
With these changes, Billa grows bigger and stronger and it won’t be surprise if it brings in some hot & happening hollywood celebrities into the south Indian cinema for the 1st time. Its no more a south Indian film, Its going global and its BILLA. It’s a prequel, with a sequel with twist and turns but ensures thrill and success for sure. What may change, one thing for sure is “Billa” is a phenomenon and it will remain the same. Wait for the charismatic Indian actor Thala, taking Indian cinema to a global level in the leagues of James Bond with the name Billa.

Saran to remake Attagasam in Hindi

Many directors have played a major role in making Ajith Kumar attain his current star status in Tamil cinema. Director Saran is one of the most vital in the list. His movies with Ajith were all successful and helped in creating a huge fan following for the actor. He has been quite silent after the box office debacle of Aasal for a while.
Rumours say that he is working on a script to remake the blockbuster hit Attagasam in Hindi with a popular actor. Will it be Ajith? We sure hope so! Galatta wishes him the very best!

‘Mankatha’ not in Mumbai but Chennai

Contrary to some media reports that held the ‘Mankatha’ cast is in Mumbai city shooting for the film in the famous Dharavi area, the director of the film Venkat Prabhu has said that it was only him and his crew went to scout for the locations. Ajith and other actors were not there for any job. No shooting happened in Mumbai.

Venkat Prabhu further said the next immediate schedule will happen only in Chennai and the Mumbai schedule will happen sometime later.

Another interesting information disclosed by Venkat Prabhu is that ‘Mankatha’ will have a short animation sequence that will be created with world class techniques. The sequence that will run for 3-5 minutes will be a highlight of the film according to Venkat Prabhu.

With the planned scheduled going little skewed will ‘Mankatha’ release on May 1 as announced? Considering the World Cup and IPL cricket seasons coming up, we think it will go beyond May.

Ajith's Mankatha: The match-fixing saga

Thala Ajith and his Mankatha team is working overtime to complete the shoot of his film. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, it is progressing briskly. The film also stars Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Premji Amaren, Arjun and Vaibhav in prominent roles. Recently the Mankatha crew completed its second schedule in Chennai and will soon start the final schedule in Mumbai. Reportedly director Venkat Prabhu has erected a huge set of Mumbai's Dharavi slum in Chennai for the film.
Meanwhile there are also reports that the film will be a complete action-thriller that will narrate the match-fixing sagas in international cricket matches.

Bala regrets not making film with Ajith

Known for his outspokenness, Bala is at his candid best again. The National Award winning director has said that he regrets not working with Ajith in ‘Naan Kadavul’ as planned.
Remember the film went on floors initially with Ajith playing the protagonist and the actor in fact grew long hair and beard for the role. But both parted ways due to difference of opinion and it was Arya who finally replaced the ‘Thala’.
“The mistake is mine. I acted in a kiddish way. I regret for what has happened. But I am not bothered about it,” Bala said, answering to questions from readers of a popular Tamil weekly magazine.
The filmmaker has just completed shooting ‘Avan Ivan’, a film starring Vishal and Arya in lead roles. He is currently busy with post production works of the movie, which is expected to see the light of the day this April.

PROUDLY SAY THALATHALAPATHY

It seems that the two mass groups of the fans started to mix up without collision. After the success of Vijay`s KAVALAN, things started to change. Vijay being praised for his performance in KAVALAN is not something new as the actor has already proved his dynamic acting towards such roles long before a decade. But the positive feedback and appreciation for the actor from a particular group is something unique and happens for the first time.
Yes, two big group of Kollywood film industry Ilayathalapathy Vijay Fans and Thala Ajith Fans have finally started to alter their mind of vengeance. The recent meeting of the two masses would have made way for their respective fans to collaborate mutually. The other reason, fans (or people) realize certain super powers of the state humiliating an actor for his stage speech and creating problems for the other during his film release. Taking such statements into their mind Vijay fans and Ajith fans have started giving their mutual positive feedback for the actors.
Kavalan already having its fast rollercoaster journey seated with family member, Vijay fans and non Vijay fans, its now time for Ajith`s Mankatha. Mankatha getting ready to hit the screens later this year has built great expectations among Ajith fans. But this time it is not only Ajith fans waiting for Mankatha, but also a major part of Vijay fans waiting with their hands wide open to receive Ajith`s Mankatha and to give their positive feelings. Hope everything goes well for the heroes in the future.
And finally, Tamil cinema seems to move on the right track. If this condition prevails there is even a chance for the two masses to share the screen in future. Who knows, a time might come where we can find some big faces like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan,Vijay, Ajith, Vikram Sharing the screen making Tamil people`s dream come true. Behindwoods need to be congratulated for spreading out its positive wave towards Tamil cinema.
