A B'day Gift For Thala!

Director Venkat Prabhu might have preferred making multi-starrers to making films with big heroes in the past.
But then, he had never ruled out the idea of making a movie with a big hero. The director had once said, "I think it's hard to make a film for a big hero. I'm not sure if I will be able to pull it off !"
But now, it looks like Venkat's preferences have changed. He has been working on Mankatha, Ajith's 50th film, and what's more, he seems to be enjoying it.
Though the film was initially planned for a May 1 release, on Ajith's birthday, it's now been pushed for a later date. However, the latest we hear is that Venkat's planning to release the audio of the film on May 1, as a gift to Ajith.
"We are working on the album now and looking at releasing it on Thala's birthday. But Yuvan is extremely busy with his other projects. I'm hoping things work out ," says Venkat.

Venkat Prabhu’s cameo in ‘Mankaatha’?

The star cast of ‘Mankaatha’ seems to get bigger and bigger. The latest addition to the cast has been Andrea. We have very reliable sources close to the director of ‘Mankaatha’ revealing that the team will be leaving to Mumbai on Sunday for the next schedule of shooting. Venkat Prabhu will be shooting portions involving the hero of the film Ajith and lead lady Trisha. Arjun and Andrea too will be a part of the team leaving to Mumbai.
This is the first film which sees Ajith and ‘action king’ Arjun sharing screen space. The film also has an entire list of popular artists with the likes of Lakshmi Rai, Andrea, and Premji Amaren to just name a few. Though the actors have a short duration on screen the director has made sure that each has got an important role to play in taking the story forward.
When Venkat Prabhu decided to direct ‘Mankaatha’ and managed to get the call sheets of all the artists involved, he did not know that he would face a time crunch in releasing the movie. Since a host of busy stars are involved bringing them together for a shoot was a big challenge due to their dates clashing. This issue seems to have been sorted out with the main cast and the crew heading to Mumbai now.
Yuvan has composed music for this Venkat Prabhu creation too and the album will be released May 1, on Ajith’s birthday! The director is confident that the music of ‘Mankaatha’ will set the music charts of the state on fire.
There are rumors running rife that Venkat Prabhu might play a role in front of the camera too. We do not have any reports confirming this but we will let you know the moment it is confirmed.

Trisha Holds Her Own

Ajith starrer 'Mankatha' is a male-dominated script. There are innumerable guys in the film and just a handful of girls.
An actress as well-known as Trisha gets to play a small but unusual role in 'Mankatha'.
“The entire film is occupied by guys, the girls don’t have much to do,” admits Trisha. She continues, “It’s totally a male flick, though I may not rock the entire film, I do play a noticeable role.”

Working with Ajith is Blast Always - Trisha

Actress Trisha roughs it out in Ranthambore for an encounter with the magnificent animal...

Trisha is having a ball. After completing work on her Telugu film Teen Maar with Pawan Kalyan, she took off on a vacation that was long overdue. Along with her best buddies, costume designer Sabina Khan and Hema, the actress headed on a wildlife trip to Ranthambore.

In an exclusive to TOI, Trisha, speaking from Ranthambore, says, "I'm a wildlife enthusiast and love going on treks. It was always my dream to see the most magnificent animal on the planet, the tiger, in its natural surroundings." Trisha stayed in a luxury tent deep inside the forest and was able to spot the elusive tiger in its natural environment.

Adds Trisha, "It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The best part was that after waiting for three days and many hours, we were able to see a tiger just metres away from our jeep! I was able to take some great pictures of the animal. It was a completely different holiday; peaceful and quiet."

Meanwhile, the actress has signed up to do Bodyguard in Telugu opposite superstar Venkatesh. The film is a remake of the Malayalam original (Bodyguard) which had Nayanthara in the lead. Interestingly, the film was made in Tamil as Kaavalan, with Asin playing the heroine, and is now being shot in Hindi with Kareena Kapoor in the lead.

An excited Trisha says, "Yes, I have signed Bodyguard in Telugu. It'll start rolling from April 14 in Hyderabad. I'm pretty excited about it and will be watching the Malayalam and Tamil versions to get an idea about firming up my look for the film." The actress has a few more projects lined up for the rest of the year and had recently made news when she replaced Asin in a fairness cream commercial.

Trisha will join Ajith and the unit of Mankatha by the end of this week in Mumbai. Concludes the actress, "Working with Ajith is always a blast. I freaked out on his biriyanis! It is my final schedule for the film and I will surely miss Venkat and rest of the unit once shoot gets done."

Mankatha release postponed to June

Thala Ajith's 50th film Mankatha, which was suppose to grace theatres on Ajith's birthday (May 1), has now been postponed. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film also stars Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Premji Amaren, Arjun and Vaibhav in prominent roles.
The Mankatha team is currently busy with its final schedule in Mumbai which will go on till April 16. However, the talkie portion and two songs are yet to be shot. Apart from all these, we have the exciting IPL and Tamil Nadu elections in May. So considering all these factors, the producers have decided to postpone the release to June.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that the film will be a complete action-thriller that will narrate the match-fixing sagas in international cricket matches.

Jayaprakash Playing as Trisha Dad in Mankatha

Jayaprakash has become the go-to guy for Kollywood filmmakers when it comes to character roles. TOI gets talking to the producer-turned-actor...

Jayaprakash won the prestigious Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actor for his extraordinary portrayal of the upright and honest school teacher Chockalingam in Pasanga, the third film in his acting career. Now, he is tipped to get more awards for his brilliant performance in his 13th film, Yuddham Sei, in which he played the role of an alcoholic pathologist with shades of grey.

Jayaprakash, a Cheran discovery, has proved his mettle in a variety of character roles in a short span of three years. The industry feels that he is going to be the next Prakash Raj, an actor who can play a father's role, a suave businessman or a crafty villain. For someone who was reluctant to don the grease paint, Jayaprakash has come a long way — from being a film producer (Porkkalam, Chellame, April Maadhathil, Thavasi, Neranja Manasu) to a leading character actor.

Says Jayaprakash, "It was Cheran who got me into acting by asking me to do a role in his Mayakannadi. I knew him as I had produced one of his earlier films, Porkkalam. Initially, I was not keen to take up the offer, but could not say 'no' to him. But now, after doing 13 films, I'm enjoying acting and it has become my bread and butter today."

At the moment, Jayaprakash is doing a variety of roles. He is playing a crucial role as Trisha's dad in Venkat Prabhu's Mankatha, a cunning minister in Muriyadi, a do-gooder politician who is a devil-in-sheep-clothing in Kamban Kazhagam, a psychiatrist in Muppozhuthum Un Karpanaigal, a shrewd business tycoon who plays mind games with the hero in Muran.

Says Jayaprakash, "I'm getting a lot of offers, but I make it a point to do films that are challenging and have something fresh about them."

For a Maharashtrian by birth (he still speaks Marathi at home), Jayaprakash is said to be one of the few actors who can speak fluently in Chennai Tamil. Says the actor, "I have lived in Chennai for 30 years and can communicate well in the local lingo. As an actor, it is a major plus for me. I feel lucky that I have never been typecast and relegated to playing father's roles."

Jayaprakash confesses that he stopped making films as a producer five years ago due to mounting losses. "Life is far smoother for me as an actor today than as a producer. I've made up for my losses," he adds.

But the best part, he says, is that he could work as an actor with some of the finest directors in Tamil cinema. "I'm proud to say that I have been moulded by directors like Cheran, Mysskin, Pandiraj, Sasikumar, Samuthirakani, Suseenthiran and Vetrimaran. It gives me a big kick to work with such directors who have made quality and meaningful cinema."

I Like Ajith Sir a Lot - Vishnuvardhan

I got married to Anu just after college when I had joined the industry as a struggling AD. Today, she is my identity and has stabilised my life. I will call her my support system and financial advisor. Even my professional decisions are taken only with her consent. Recently, I faced the biggest dilemma in my life when I had offers to direct Ajith sir’s Billa 2 and Pawan Kalyan’s Shadow at the same time. I like Ajith sir a lot but since I had committed and started work on the Telugu project, it was Anu who made me take an ethical decision. Anu is a woman of today and that comes across in her thinking and attitude.

Exclusive: Rajini in Billa 2 for Ajith

With the movie ready to go on the floors in the month of May, there seems to be a never ending tirade of scoops from the house of Billa 2.Reliable sources suggest that superstar Rajinikanth has taken special interest in the movie’s progress and is in touch with the crew getting updates about the movie. It’s also learnt that the superstar has offered his assistance to director Chakri in the dialogue writing process of Billa 2. This also means that Rajini will be a part of the story discussions as and when it happens.

Rajini’s dialogue writing abilities are already proven as he’s the one who coined the immortal ‘Naan oru dadava sonna nooru dadava sonna maadri’ in Badsha. He suggested this punch dialogue to Suresh Krishna who did not think twice before adopting it for the superhit movie.
Billa 2 will be a joint venture between Wide Angle Creations and IN Entertainment.

Andrea Denies Mankatha's Rumours

We wouldn't be wrong if we said that Mankatha is one of the most talked about films in Kollywood.
After several rumours that did the rounds, including how Trisha was playing a slum-dweller in the film, it's now all about Andrea. The latest buzz is that this pretty lass, who has sung for Venkat Prabhu's earlier film, Goa, is paired opposite Ajith. However, when contacted, Andrea rubbished the report and said that she was not doing the film and that it was Trisha who was playing the lead.
